1B Tabella1B Note for KDE Plasma

In development · 0.1Coming to Linux · KDE Plasma

Your notes, at home in Plasma.

1B Tabella is 1B Note rebuilt as a native KDE app, with Kirigami and KDE Frameworks 6. It follows your Plasma theme, answers from KRunner, sits in the system tray and sends Plasma notifications — and it's written in Rust and Qt on the same end-to-end encrypted core.

Coming to Linux, for KDE Plasma See it in action

As an RPM package first, then as a Flatpak. We'll announce it here when it's ready.

A KDE app, not a web page in a window

Native widgets, native notifications and native printing. These are real screenshots of our current build, with sample data.

Notebooks, notes and the editor side by side

Notebooks, tags, shortcuts and reminders on the left, your notes in the middle and the editor on the right; in a narrow window it shows one at a time.

Formatting as you type

Headings, lists, checklists you tick with a click, quotes, code blocks and tables, with Markdown shortcuts and images right inside a line.

Follows your Plasma theme

Colours, icons and fonts come from your Plasma theme, light or dark. Here it is with Plasma's dark theme.

Edits from your other devices, live

Pair a device with a QR code and changes arrive while you work — text, ticks and images — even in the note you have open.

Up and running in a minute

Create a space on your 1B Note server, join with a pairing code from another device, or just start writing without sync.

Package size of the 0.1 RPM for Fedora. Sync time measured in our live test against a local server: an edit made on another device appears in the open note.

Built the KDE way

The details that make an app feel like part of Plasma.

  1. Kirigami and KDE Frameworks

The interface is Kirigami with the Plasma desktop style, so it matches your theme, light or dark.

  2. Search from KRunner

Open KRunner, type a few words and jump to the note. If Tabella isn't running, KRunner starts it in the tray.

  3. Tray and notifications

Closing the window leaves Tabella in the system tray; reminders arrive as Plasma notifications with Open, Done and In 1 hour.

  4. Prints like a document

Print a note, or export it to PDF with selectable text.

The same encrypted core as 1B Note

Under the Plasma interface is onebnote-core, a Rust port of 1B Note's engine, checked byte for byte against the original. cxx-qt connects it to Qt.

  • End-to-end encryption, compatible byte for byte with 1B Note 0.1
  • Credentials kept in KWallet, through the Secret Service
  • A recovery phrase and an emergency kit you can print or save as PDF
  • Imports Markdown folders from Obsidian, Joplin or Bear, and Evernote (.enex)
  • Exports everything as Markdown (.zip)
  • No ads, no analytics, no telemetry

The details you'd miss

  • Adaptive layout

Three panes on a wide screen; a drawer and one pane at a time on a narrow one.

  • Notebooks and tags

Nested notebooks, nested tags and shortcuts to the notes you use most.

  • Reminders

Plasma notifications with Open, Done and In 1 hour — even with the window closed, from the tray.

  • Images in the line

Images inside a line of text, pasted from the clipboard or dropped in as files.

  • Tables and code

Tables with Markdown inside the cells, and code blocks with a copy button.

  • The same shortcuts as 1B Note

Ctrl+Shift+7/8/9 for lists and Ctrl+Alt+1/2/3 for headings, by key position, so they work with any keyboard layout.

  • Undo that understands notes

Its own undo history, shared by every block of a note.

  • 21 languages

The whole app in 21 languages, with the same terms as 1B Note.

Coming to Linux, for KDE Plasma

1B Tabella 0.1 runs in our own builds. It still has to catch up with today's 1B Note before it's released; when it's ready, it'll be right here.

  • LinuxRPM

Privacy at a glance

  • Notes encrypted end to end before they sync
  • Credentials kept in KWallet
  • No ads, no analytics, no telemetry
  • Works on one computer with no account at all

Good to know

  • In development: version 0.1 is built on the first generation of 1B Note — notebooks, tags and notes.
  • It doesn't sync with today's 1B Note yet: pages, databases, teams and the current sync format still have to come to Tabella before release.
  • Linux only, for KDE Plasma 6; tested on Fedora. The Flatpak isn't built yet.
  • Reminders need Tabella open or in the tray: there's no background service.
  • No Windows or macOS version: on Windows, there's 1B Note.
