1B CutEdit & Effects · desktop

One program instead of two. Editing and effects, together.

1B Cut joins video editing and visual effects in a single project and a single engine. Double-click a clip and you are inside its effects, with the edit still around you. Bring the AI you choose — your Claude, your ChatGPT or a local model — and keep everything on your computer.

  • Editing + effects in one program
  • The AI you choose
  • Everything on your computer

Three ideas that make it one program

No exporting, no linking, no round-trip between an editor and a compositor. One project, one engine, and an AI that works for you.

  1. 1B Cut: Double-click on a shot: its composition opens, with the frames before and after it from the edit below.
    01

    Open it

Double-click a clip — or several — on the timeline and you are in its composition, with the edit in context. Go back with one click.

  2. 1B Cut: The same composition as nodes, with a viewer on the selected node.
    02

    Layers or nodes

The same composition, seen as layers or as nodes. One key switches the view; a change on one side shows up on the other.

  3. 1B Cut: An agent's proposal: the changes in words and marked in violet, before and after in the viewer, accept or discard.
    03

    The AI proposes, you decide

Your AI works on a proposal, like a branch: changes marked, before and after, and you accept or undo them all at once.

Screenshots of the prototype, on synthetic demo footage generated by the program. The interface will still change before the first version.

  • 1project and one engine for the edit and the effects
  • 0credits: the local AI is included, and the powerful one is yours
  • 0ads, trackers or mandatory accounts

From the first cut to the final export, in one place

Work the way you already do. 1B Cut just removes the jump between programs.

  1. Edit

Tracks, ripple, roll, slip and slide, multicam, transitions and titles, colour and audio — on one timeline.

  2. Open the shot

Double-click and add what the shot needs: layers, masks, keying, tracking, stabilisation, animated text.

  3. Ask your AI

Clean-up, subtitles, cuts by text or a whole recipe: the agent prepares a proposal and waits for you.

  4. Export

Back on the timeline, everything is already in place. Export with a preset and keep working.

Your AI, with you in charge

1B Cut speaks MCP: connect the LLM you already use, or work with the local AI that comes included. Nothing to top up.

  • Local AI included: transcription, subtitles, cutting by text, silences and filler words, masks and background removal — on your computer.
  • Bring your own LLM — Claude, ChatGPT or a local model — through MCP or with your own key.
  • Every action is a command with an ID, written to a journal. The interface, the CLI, MCP and Python use the same commands.
  • The agent works on a proposal: changes marked, before and after, accept or undo in one go.
  • Permissions: only the project's folders, and confirmation before anything destructive.
  • No credits, ever: no usage meter and nothing to buy from us to keep using the AI.

Real test

Tested with Claude

We connected Claude Code to the prototype through MCP and asked it, in plain language, for an everyday job on a short demo talk.

What it was asked (translated from Spanish)

In the project I have open in 1B Cut, remove the long pauses (over one second) from the talk, put a title at the start that says “How to edit a video” and get the export to talk-final.mp4 ready in the project folder. When you're done, send me the proposal to review.

  1. It opened a proposal

Before changing anything, it started a proposal: everything it did next went there, not into the project.

  2. It did the job

It removed the two long pauses, put the title at the start and left the export prepared.

  3. It checked its own work

It looked at the before and after, saw that the title went out of frame and centred it by itself.

  4. It sent it for review

It sent the proposal with a summary of each change. Until it was accepted, the timeline and the files stayed as they were.

  5. Accepted in one step

“Accept all” applied everything as a single step and only then ran the export. One Undo takes it all back.

The real screen from that test, with the interface in Spanish: the proposal marked in violet on the timeline, before and after in the viewer, and the agent's changes listed one by one.

Test with the prototype and Claude Code. Any client that speaks MCP uses the same commands and gets the same proposals.

Everything a video needs, from the first cut to the last effect

  • Timeline

Tracks, ripple, roll, slip and slide, multicam, keyframes with curves, transitions and titles.

  • Compositing

Layers and precompositions, masks, keying, point, planar and camera tracking, and stabilisation.

  • Motion

Animated text, shapes, basic particles, simple 3D and expressions in JavaScript.

  • Colour

Colour wheels, curves, LUTs, OCIO and ACES, from the edit to the composition.

  • Audio

Mixing and voice clean-up, without leaving the timeline.

  • Local AI

Transcription, subtitles, cutting by text, silences and filler words, masks, depth and background removal.

  • Reliability first

Autosave with a journal, recovery after a crash and a safe mode. Proxies for heavy footage.

  • Open project format

Projects in documented, versioned JSON — readable by you, by your scripts and by your agent.

Where it will run

Built from day one for the three desktop systems, starting with Linux.

  1. Linux

The first builds, to see results soon.

    First
  2. Windows

Then on Windows, with the same project format.

    After

A licence that is never taken away

What is free stays free. The Pro licence will be perpetual: the version you buy works forever, with no subscription needed to keep opening your projects.

Good to know

  • 1B Cut does not generate video with AI: its AI helps you edit, subtitle and mask your own footage.
  • It does not open other programs' native project files; timelines come in and out through OTIO, FCPXML and EDL.
  • There is no cloud collaboration: your projects are files on your computer.

Privacy at a glance

  • No ads, no analytics, no tracking and no mandatory account.
  • Everything runs on your computer: your footage and your projects never leave it.
  • The network is used only to download AI models and to check for updates, and both can be turned off.
  • Your AI is yours: you connect your own LLM, and there are no credits and no AI service of ours in between.
